(CBS) Thirteen Israeli soldiers were killed Tuesday when they entered at least one booby-trapped building during an assault on Palestinian militants in the West Bank refugee camp of Jenin, an Israeli military source said.

It was the single deadliest incident involving Israeli forces in the past 18 months of Israeli-Palestinian fighting. Nine soldiers were wounded.

The soldiers entered the building as part of searches of the camp, which has been the scene of the heaviest fighting during Israel's 12-day military offensive in the West Bank. Israeli media said more than one building was involved.

Palestinian gunmen said they had planted bombs in buildings to hold back advancing Israeli forces. One camp resident was told by gunmen they saw 20 soldiers enter a building, and then detonated explosives hidden inside.

Earlier in the day, after more pressure from the Bush administration, Israel began taking troops out of the West Bank towns of Tulkarem and Qalqiliya. But Israeli troops were on the move again headed into Dura, also on the West Bank. And several Israeli armored vehicles drove into the West Bank town of Hebron, but witnesses said they later turned back. It was not immediately clear whether it was part of a brief incursion or the beginning of a takeover of another major Palestinian town.

In another development, Israel agreed to briefly ease the confinement of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and permit him to meet with four senior advisers ahead of a cease-fire mission by Secretary of State Colin Powell who is due to arrive Friday. After a meeting with Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak, Powell said definitively he would be meeting with Arafat this weekend.

Despite the direct appeal from President Bush for Israel to withdraw from Palestinian-controlled areas, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon did not say he would immediately end the military offensive against. Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said that the operation to wipe out militants in Tulkarem and Qalqiliya was successful.

The partial pullback fell short of President Bush's demand for a troop withdrawal to begin "without delay." END

The killing of thirteen Israeli soldiers will definitely complicate things for Secretary of State Colin Powell. But that won't change anything as far as the offensive is concerned. They will continue to push forward and will pull back to a safe distance while the Secretary of State is in the country.

I'm still not sure how these talks will develop but I do see them as a critical step forward. How big is anyone's guess. But I can assure you that continued fighting will occur in that region to the point of regional war. Why do I say this? The Bible is pretty plain that Israel is there to stay and will not be uprooted ever again. They will defend what they have and will not be defeated. Take a look at these verses:

And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God. (Amos 9:14-15)

Israel will not be removed no matter what happens in the future. I don't care if they do retreat back to their pre-1967 borders (I don't see that happening) they will still be safe in their land never to be uprooted again. It is only through the Lord that this could happen. Keep watching the news as details unfold. We are living in the final hours of this age.
