Thursday April 11, 4:23 AM The European Parliament called on the 15 EU member-states to impose sanctions on Israel for its offensive against Palestinians amid growing frustration over the military attacks. In a hard-hitting resolution, promptly deplored by a senior Israeli diplomat, the EU's directly-elected legislature said an agreement signed in November 1995 which defines political and trade links between the European Union and Israel should be suspended. It also called for an arms embargo to be imposed on both Israel and the Palestinian territories, and urged the European Union to immediately prepare for a potential UN-mandated peacekeeping mission in the Middle East. "The military escalation pursued by the Sharon government ... violates international and humanitarian law and will provide no effective solution to the terrorist attacks," the resolution said. Suspending the EU-Israel Association Agreement would, in effect, deny preferential access to European markets for Israeli goods. The European Union is Israel's biggest trading partner, buying a quarter of all Israeli exports -- about 8.5 billion dollars' worth in 2000. It is also the largest source of funding to the Palestinian Authority. But suspending the pact with Israel would require the unanimous approval of all the member states -- something that political analysts said is unlikely to materialize in the immediate future. Victor Harel, head of the Israeli foreign ministry's western European department, deplored the resolution as "one-sided" and asked why it did not similarly threaten Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. "We know that we have a very serious image problem in Europe," Harel told reporters in Strasbourg. "But Europe has a very serious problem of image in Israel, too." EU foreign ministers are due to review Middle East policy in Luxembourg next Monday, on the heels of Wednesday's crisis talks in Madrid between EU foreign policy high representative Javier Solana and US Secretary of State Colin Powell. April 11, 2002 Posted: 1314 GMT JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Hours before U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell was due to arrive in the strife-ridden Middle East, Israeli forces entered two more West Bank towns early Thursday -- and began withdrawal from two dozen villages in Palestinian territory. Palestinian sources said Israeli tanks and military vehicles rolled into Bir Zeit, the West Bank's most prominent university town. Israeli forces also entered the West Bank town of Daharyeh near Hebron. There were no immediate reports of fighting in either location. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the operations, saying they were part of the army's mission to locate terrorists and weapons. END U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell is due in Israel later today and I hope that he is smart enough to see that the terrorism that is being emanated from the PLO. We definitely need to be in prayer for both President Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell as they go into talks with this terrorist organization that they will see their hidden agenda. The European Union is so bias that it's nauseating. The worst part isn't that they are actually sympathetic with the PLO, but that they are short-term thinkers. They don't want the Arab world to send suicide bombers their way. There are already some uprisings going on in many of the EU nations. Protests are popping up throughout Europe against Israel. This will spread to the EU even though they have done their best to avoid any part of it and they will have to get involved. I had someone email me the other day and they brought up the point that there are still to many countries in the EU for the antichrist to make his grand entrance. Therefore can the antichrist come on the scene at this moment? As we have witnessed over the last few months, life can change forever in a very short time period. Here in the U.S. we went from peace and safety to victims of the most horrible terror attack in our history. When Jesus said that in the last days we would be living in perilous times He was correct. Although, I do believe it's going to get a lot worse in the near future. What many don't realize is that the rapture does not usher in the start of the tribulation period. The tribulation period starts with the antichrist signing a seven-year peace plan with Israel. Until that day comes the tribulation period has not begun. Although things are bad at this time, I believe that it will get unbearable during the time between the rapture and the start of the tribulation period. Many things could happen between the rapture and the start of the tribulation period. It could get a lot more dangerous worldwide, the international economy could spiral out of control, terrorism could be commonplace, and war could be imminent in every corner. World leaders could be literally searching for a man to save the world from itself. It could be a time of desperation and what many may see as our last hope. Put it this way, after the rapture occurs the time leading up to the tribulation period will get so bad that the whole world will be searching for someone to lead them out of what is seen as a hopeless situation. How long that time period will be before the tribulation actually starts is unknown but I would guess a year or two. That would be plenty of time for the antichrist to rise to power and for the EU to trim down to ten nations. Pastor Malone
