Tue Jun 11,12:59 PM ET US President George W Bush has cautiously backed Israel's incursion into Ramallah following talks with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in Washington. "Israel has a right to defend herself," Mr Bush said after the meeting, while warning that the conditions to guarantee progress towards peace in the Middle East are not yet right. Mr Bush said no-one had confidence in the reformed Palestinian Authority and that institutions were needed that would give Palestinians hope and the Israelis confidence in dealing with the emerging Palestinian government. Israeli tanks surrounded the headquarters of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in Ramallah for the second time in less than a week, just hours before the summit got under way. END No one is ever going to have confidence in any Palestinian institution. It's going to take an outside multinational peacekeeping army to bring peace to the region. With more suicide bombings over the last couple of days, it's not getting any closer to peace in that part of the world. Look for more of the same for Israel. The elections are around the corner in Israel, and at first glance, Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is posed to takeover. If that happens all peace talks will be over. Netanyahu is against any form of a Palestinian state and would take a much stronger stand against the Arab world. He has said that he believes that God has called him to rebuild the temple. Whether that is true remains to be seen. My prediction is that Sharon will stay in power although I do support Netanyahu. I believe he (Netanyahu) is more forceful and will hold Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat responsible for his so-called indirect actions. So far, world opinion is keeping the IDF off his back.
