preliminary approval Wednesday for an Israeli proposal to start withdrawing from
some Palestinian-ruled areas if the Palestinian Authority reins in militants. But
a senior cabinet minister said some issues still had to be discussed and Israeli
and Palestinian officials would meet later in the day, the second such meeting
this week. There
is preliminary approval," Planning Minister Nabil Shaath told reporters
after Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and his cabinet discussed the proposal
in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Israeli
Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer proposed at talks Monday starting to pull
some forces back in Gaza in return for the Palestinian Authority halting attacks
by militants waging an uprising against Israeli occupation. Some
Palestinian officials have opposed the move, saying Israel should withdraw all
its forces in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Palestinian
officials said the cabinet wanted an Israeli withdrawal from Ramallah to be part
of the Israeli plan. Israeli
forces have occupied seven Palestinian-ruled cities in the West Bank since
militants carried out two suicide bombings in rapid succession in Jerusalem in
mid-June. Israel
responded to more attacks this week by declaring a travel ban on Palestinians in
much of the West Bank and sealing off the southern Gaza town of Rafah with
tanks. But
Israel has said it wants to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Palestinians
while cracking down on the militants. The
Palestinians say the Israeli clampdowns in Palestinian-ruled areas are
collective punishment and that Israeli moves to ease restrictions have so far
been cosmetic. END This so-called truce will be short and sweet. But it doesn't take a prophet to predict that outcome. The Israelis and Palestinians in and of themselves will not bring peace to the region. Actually, I can't even imagine a truce. I will give Hamas 24 hours after the pull out before they send out their first round of homicide bombers. I still feel that a multinational military presence will have to come in and keep the peace. This will be a real army and they will have the blessing of the UN. Look for the EU to get even more involved in the future. By the way, regarding the last article about the EU looking for a major figure to head up the Union. You really ought to be scratching your head over this announcement. If you don't already know this is the block of nations that most Bible prophecy scholars predict the antichrist will come out of. It's getting to the point where you don't even have to live by faith anymore. Who will he be? That's anyone's guess, but the Bible does say that he/she that has wisdom can know. I would say that it isn't possible right now but it maybe very shortly. Speaking of predictions, I have said for the last couple of years that China would march on Taiwan. This unfortunately may see this soon. Pastor Malone
