on Thursday in its showdown with the United States, which maintains Iraqi leader
Saddam Hussein is trying to build nuclear weapons. Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said a U.S. attack
against Saddam Hussein would "open the gates of hell in the Middle
East." The League's final resolution did not call on Iraq to
readmit U.N. weapons inspectors, but Moussa said Iraq could dispel allegations
it had broken promises made at the end of the Gulf War. "We believe that the return of the inspectors ...
would form an important step toward showing the world whether there is indeed a
violation of the Security Council resolutions," Moussa told reporters. The resolution at the two-day Arab League foreign
ministerial meeting registered "total rejection of the threat of aggression
on Arab nations, especially Iraq, reaffirming that these threats and any threat
to the security and safety of any Arab country are considered a threat to Arab
national security." The unified Arab stance was a diplomatic coup for Iraqi
Foreign Minister Naji Sabri, who told reporters that all the Arab governments
had expressed their "total rejection of the aggressive intentions of the
United States." The meeting, which ended Thursday, was held as the Bush
administration continued threatening to attack Iraq to remove Saddam and wipe
out his alleged program to build chemical, biological and nuclear weapons and
the missiles to deliver them. Saddam, at the end of the Gulf War, pledged to
scrap the program. END Many have asked me what I believe will happen if the U.S.
does attack Iraq. Well, a couple of
months ago I would have said this will be much like the first Gulf War, and it
probably will be, but we are going in to topple a government.
A government that is, for the most part, being backed by the Arab League.
This may turn out to be brothers coming to the rescue of another brother.
I don’t foresee this happening, but there are a lot of variables
involved that could spark that flame. Israel is always in the mix when it comes to the Arab
world. They very well could be a
target of Arab aggression. It is
probable that when the U.S. does attack Iraq that they (Iraq) could send a
hailstorm of missiles down on Israel just to draw them into the war.
And you can bet Israel will retaliate.
This would most certainly bring the rest of the Arab world into the war.
It might also bring in a few outsiders.
This could turn out to be the war Ezekiel 38 & 39 is speaking about.
Of course, Russia will have to get into the mix. This is a very scary war because it is so unpredictable.
It could go very smoothly with Saddam Hussein getting run out of town. Or it could go very wrong with Israel getting into the
battle. With U.S. forces stretched
very thin, this maybe a great time for the Arab world lead by Russia to make
their move. I don’t see the U.S.
having the ability to come to Israel’s aid even if they wanted to. On the other hand, eleventh hour negotiations could bring
the U.N. weapons inspectors back to Iraq…for the time being.
But eventually Iraq will have to be dealt with.
Hopefully sooner than later.
