Israel Reroutes Barrier on Court Order
JERUSALEM - Israel's Defense Ministry has mapped out a new route
for the separation barrier in the West Bank that heeds a Supreme Court order to
reduce hardships for Palestinians and runs closer to the Israel's 1967 border,
officials said Monday.
Word of the new route came as Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) insisted he would go ahead with his plan to pull soldiers and settlers out of the Gaza Strip (news - web sites) despite a huge demonstration against it Sunday, when about 100,000 protesters created a human chain across some 55 miles from Gaza to Jerusalem.
"I decided to proceed with the disengagement plan because it is clear that Israel cannot remain in the Gaza Strip forever," Sharon said in a statement issued by his office. His plan calls for evacuating the 8,000 settlers from Gaza next year, but many members of his own Likud Party oppose it.
Iran
Defies Pressure, Resumes Tests of Nuke Plant...
VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran has defied international pressure and resumed testing
a facility for converting uranium, a key part of the process of enriching the
element for use as fuel or in a nuclear bomb, diplomats said Thursday.
The European Union's "big three" -- France, Britain and Germany -- strongly criticized Iran when it tested the site in March, saying it sent the wrong signal and would make it harder for Tehran to regain international confidence.
The EU three were due to meet Iranian officials in Paris on Thursday to discuss Tehran's nuclear program.
Fearful
Jews Fleeing France...
(CBS/AP) Just 10 days after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
enraged French leaders by urging France's Jews to leave for Israel, a group of
200 French Jews arrived to start a new life in the Jewish state, with Sharon at
the airport to greet them.
Israel
Court Upholds Vanunu Restrictions
(AP) - Israel's Supreme Court upheld on Monday security restrictions placed on
nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu, limiting his movements and the things he
is allowed to say. However, Vanunu appeared to immediately violate restrictions
that forbid him from initiating contact with foreign media, speaking to a swarm
of journalists from Israel and abroad after the ruling was announced
France Annuls First
Same-Sex Marriage...
BORDEAUX, France (Reuters) - A French court has annulled France's first gay
marriage, setting a legal precedent for outlawing same-sex marriages that came
down on the side of the conservative government.
The government had already declared the marriage invalid and suspended the mayor who conducted it on June 5 in the Bordeaux suburb of Begles. The court ruling was a blow for opposition politicians who want to make gay marriages legal.
"The tribunal declared null and void the marriage between Mr. Stephane Chapin and Mr. Bertrand Charpentier," the court in Bordeaux, the main city near Begles, said in its ruling.
Comments
Iran has defied the world and has continued testing nuclear material (uranium)
for possible use in creating a nuclear bomb. I have to believe that both
Iran and North Korea are very close to possessing nuclear weapons.
Apparently French Jews have taken Ariel Sharon's advice and are fleeing France. If they come to Israel they won't be settling down in the Gaza Strip. It looks like Prime Minister Sharon is serious about clearing out all Jewish settlers and soldiers from that area by next year. In fact, he's even heeded the Supreme Courts (World) decision regarding the wall and is drawing up plans to bring it more in line with their decision.
The World Court is a joke, but when the E.U. backs their decision Israel is going to listen. Even though Israel has certain reservations regarding the European Union they would love to have a strong relationship with them. One day they will but it will end in disaster.
It looks like France has annulled their first same sex marriage. This should be another lesson I hope the U.S. learns before it's too late. Eventually it will come to the U.S. but I'm praying it won't be until after the rapture occurs.
