Redesigning Atomic Weapons
Worried that the nation's aging nuclear
arsenal is increasingly fragile, American scientists have begun designing a new
generation of nuclear arms meant to be sturdier and more reliable and to have
longer lives, federal officials and private experts say.
The officials say the program could help shrink the arsenal and the high cost of its maintenance. But critics say it could needlessly resuscitate the complex of factories and laboratories that make nuclear weapons and could possibly ignite a new arms race.

Proposes Paying Off Insurgents
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The Bush administration has
offered to finance an effort to help end the Palestinian insurgency against
Israel.
U.S. officials said the administration has offered to pay Palestinian insurgents who agree to surrender their weapons. They said the offer was part of a $350 million assistance package to the Palestinian Authority.
The offer was scheduled to be discussed by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during her visit to Ramallah on Monday. Officials said that under the proposal, the United States would guarantee $100 per month to any insurgent who surrenders his weapon and renounces violence.
Comments
Israel and Palestine are ready to commit to a truce.
This isn't a peace treaty but it is a step in the right direction. I do
see a peace agreement of some sort happening soon. The U.S. is working
hard, along with the rest of the quartet, to make this a reality.
I would like to think that this will turn out to be the peace agreement of the antichrist. I'm not completely sold on it, but I am convinced that the Russian-Arab (Ezekiel 38 & 39) attack will come as a result of this treaty. Following the attack and defeat of the Russian-Arab army the real treaty may come. This may be through the European Neighborhood Policy. This is an agreement (ENPI) that will confirm many as partners with the European Union. But it's still early in the process and we certainly need to follow this story closely. We maybe in the beginning stages of a direct fulfillment of prophecy.
If you haven't heard, the U.S. government is thinking strongly about paying off Palestinian insurgents. You would have thought we would have learned by now that this fight has never been about money. They hate Israel and always will! It would be a mistake to pay them off. Eventually, the money would be turned into weapons.
The U.S. is looking at redesigning their atomic weapons program. According to the above article (U.S. Redesigning Atomic Weapons) most of our aging arsenal is between five and ten years beyond their expiration date. The life expectancy of a U.S. nuclear warhead is somewhere around fifteen years. The scary thing is we're not even sure how many of the missiles will fire. International nuclear treaty laws prohibit the U.S. from performing underground testing. If we're (U.S.) adhering to that nuclear treaty we're crazy! I can assure you no one else is.
