“And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.” (Revelation 8:1)
After the massive worldwide earthquake, God calls for silence for about half an hour. The purpose of this silence will be to see what the reaction of man will be, whether a call for repentance or continued rebellion. While Revelation 6:16, 17 declares that most men will consider God to be responsible for this devastating earthquake, there is no record of repentance. Some describe it as the calm before the storm. I believe this was the last chance of man to obtain mercy. For at the end of the silence, come the remaining judgments. These judgments will be so devastating and so horrible that Jesus said, “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: But for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” (Matthew 24:22)
The judgments will be in order and consecutive, one right after the other. First will be the seven trumpet judgments, followed by the seven bowl judgments. Is it any wonder that God paused before He unleashed these final judgments, for His mercy is everlasting and without end.
