Iran 1 Step From Atomic Bomb - With 3 Developments This Year, Tehran's Pace Startling Analysts
Confounding the predictions of many Western analysts, Iran's announcement yesterday that it successfully enriched uranium was the third major development this year on the way to producing an atomic bomb, leaving only one more step.

Iran Vows To Expand Uranium Enrichment
TEHRAN, Iran - Iran intends to move toward large-scale uranium enrichment involving 54,000 centrifuges, the country's deputy nuclear chief said Wednesday, signaling its resolve to expand a program the international community has insisted it halt. Iran's president announced Tuesday the country had succeeded in enriching uranium on a small scale for the first time, using 164 centrifuges.

World Criticism Mounts Over Iran's Nuclear Step
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Russia and theEuropean Union joined the United States on Wednesday in condemning Iran's assertion that it had enriched uranium in defiance of a U.N. demand, but Moscow said force could not resolve the dispute.

U.S. Attack On Iran Mulled For Summer
LONDON [MENL] -- Western powers envision a military option against Iran in the fall of 2006.

Western defense sources and analysts said Britain and the United States were preparing for the prospect of air strikes against Iran in late 2006. They said both London and Washington agreed to complete a diplomatic effort at the United Nations Security Council before they seriously consider plans to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities.

Is Iran Next? The Calculus Of Military Strike
WASHINGTON - Time and again this week, President Bush and his team reiterated their position on Iran's nuclear program: America wants a diplomatic solution, and any suggestion it is moving toward an inevitable strike on Iran is "wild speculation."

Israel Calls On World To Stop Iran...
JERUSALEM -- Shortly after Iran said it managed to enrich uranium, Israel called for "a broad and determined international coalition" to stop Teheran's nuclear project.

The Israeli call followed Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's report that on Sunday Iran produced enriched uranium with the purity needed for a nuclear power station.

N. Korea Hints At Possible Pre-Emptive Strikes
SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea's defence minister warned Saturday that a pre-emptive strike is not the monopoly of the United States, in comments carried by the North's official news agency.

"We will never sit with arms folded and watch until the U.S. attacks us," said Kim Il Chol, vice marshal of the North's Korean People's Army, according to the official Korean Central News Agency. "A pre-emptive strike is not the monopoly of the U.S.," he said.

Cabinet Chooses Olmert To Become Prime Minister On Friday
With no change foreseen in Prime Minister Sharon's comatose condition, the Cabinet chose Ehud Olmert to become Prime Minister in his place. It takes effect on Friday - unless Sharon wakes up first.

Abbas: 'Situation Is Deteriorating'
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that the situation in the Palestinian areas was deteriorating.

Report: PA Government Recognizes '67 Borders
European Parliament Development Assembly Chairperson Louisa Morantini claimed on Wednesday that in a meeting with Palestinian Parliament Chairman Aziz Dwek, the Hamas affiliate stressed that he and the PA government recognized the 1967 borders and therefore, in her opinion, Dwek recognizes Israel's right to exist.

The world, including Russia, is condemning Iran's latest revelation.  Well, the world anyway...I have doubts about the sincerity of Russia's call.  Let's face it, Russia played a big part in Iran getting to this point whether they want to admit it or not.  I look at it as more of a winking condemnation.

Should we be worried about Iran?  Absolutely, and they're closer to achieving a nuclear bomb then previously thought.  According to Jerry Corsi, author of "Atomic Iran", he stated to WorldNetDaily.com that Iran could easily have a nuclear bomb by the end of 2006.

"They have only one more problem to solve," Corsi said. "The world has got to stop thinking about these Iranians as backward, just because Ahmadinejad has a radical religious agenda. They have all the technical knowledge and all the money they need to solve these problems."

In February, National Intelligence Director John Negroponte told Congress that Iran was as much as a decade away from producing a nuclear weapon.

But Corsi, noting it took just four months to produce enriched uranium, argues Tehran is only trying to solve technical problems to make an atomic bomb, not come up with breakthroughs. With the help of China, Russia and their own scientists, who have received world-class training, they could easily have a bomb by the end of the year, he said."  http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/printer-friendly.asp?ARTICLE_ID=49698

I would like to believe that this will just blow over as past nuclear standoffs have done, but with Iraq in the rear view mirror, the U.S. and their allies may be moving on to Iran next.

As far as prophecy goes, the Bible does not speak specially about an attack on Iran.  For this reason, I believe this will turn out to be another case of "wars and rumors of wars" prophesied for the last days.  You might as well add North Korea to that list.  They are threatening a pre-emptive strike against the U.S.

Of course, we could be on the brink of the rapture and the revealing of the antichrist.  No born again Christian should ever look past that possibility.  Should we be praying for Armageddon?  No, and it wouldn't do any good if we did...we're way past that point.

Apparently, President Bush is still looking for a diplomatic solution to the Iran situation but says he will not rule out force.

"It seems likely that precision airstrikes could set Iran's nuclear program back at least a year and perhaps several. Whether that delay is worth the probable consequences - the strengthening of a despotic regime within Iran and the increased likelihood of terrorism in nearby Iraq and the broader region - is what's at issue."

"The military option has a lot of costs," says Michael Rubin, an Iran expert at the American Enterprise Institute here. "But is the cost of the Islamic Republic of Iran having a nuclear weapon greater?"  http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AlDBvPe9SELCrN6_rwF0o39Sw60A;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl/SIG=11ov29pem/**http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20060412/ts_csm/airan_1

Certainly, as Christians, we need to keep our eyes on the future with Jesus' return in mind.  It may not be today or tomorrow, but one day soon He will come.
