Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz said
recently that the world's obsession with Israel has prevented the international
community from solving other more pressing global problems such as genocide.
"'Six million additional people have died since the end of the Second World War because of this obsessive focus on Israel," Dershowitz was quoted as saying, citing global inaction over the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, the former Yugoslavia, and the slaughter currently taking place in Darfur." http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-3348805,00.html
Professor Dershowitz doesn't know it but he's speaking out of the pages of Bible prophecy. "And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people". (Zechariah 12:3a)
Friday, the Madrid + 15 Peace
Conference ended with the decision that the Middle East peace process should be
placed back on the table during the first half of 2007.
EU Foreign Policy Chief
Javier Solana said,"the moment of action has come."
"It is imperative to
continue with a step-by-step approach. [UN Representative] Terje Roed-Larsen has
said that the totality is 'too big,' so let us take the Israeli-Palestinian
issue first," Solana continued. The
process would need to be "comprehensive," and include "outside
monitoring." http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1167467720562&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
One
of my readers wrote me recently and reminded me of the 1967 recapturing of
Jerusalem. He also reminded me of a
debate many used to have in prophetic circles as to whether 1948 or 1967 should
be used to determine the starting point of the last generation.
He
was of the mind that 1967 could be that prophetic starting point.
He also reminded me that 2007 marked forty years since the recapture of
the holy city Jerusalem. He wanted to know what my opinion was regarding the two dates
and which one was correct.
As
I read his e-mail, it dawned on me that this was another possibility that should
be considered. I have to admit that
most experts see 1948 as the beginning date of Israel's rebirth, but some
believe that the last generation could not be official without Jerusalem being
back in Israeli hands.
He
also included in his e-mail the following verse:
“Now
learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth
forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all
these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you,
This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” (Matthew
24:32-34)
Could
this truly be the end of the generation foretold in Matthew 24?
I can’t answer that question… but as we head into 2007 we definitely
want to keep our eyes open and our ears attuned to the possibility that this
theory may be correct.
I
do, however believe, that we are standing on the threshold of the Lord's
coming…and maybe even at the door. This
could be the dawning of that day!
Two
things to ponder that will likely happen in 2007: One, war in the Middle East between Israel and any
combination of Syria, Lebanon, Hezbollah, Palestine, and Iran.
Two, Israel (and possibly the U.S.) will likely attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. Iran would consider this an act of war and this would prompt the above mentioned Middle East war. It’s likely that Syria would come to the aid of Iran and the others would just follow their leadership.
Keep
these things in the back of your mind as we proceed through the year 2007.
Are you ready to meet the Lord? If not, your time is running out!
