Israeli warplanes crossed the Syrian border this morning
in what they described as part of a war games exercise. But Syrian
military officials claim that the aircrafts (4 or 5) broke the sound barrier and
dropped ammunition on apparent targets in Syrian territory before being repelled
by antiaircraft gunfire.
There were several explosions in the area, which caused no damage or fatalities, but Syrian officials have come out and warned Israel saying it “reserves itself the right to respond in any way it sees suitable.”
"Enemy Israeli planes penetrated Syrian airspace from the Mediterranean Sea heading towards the northeast, breaking the sound barrier," a Syrian army spokesman told the official SANA news agency.
"Our air defences repulsed them and forced them to leave... after the Israeli planes dropped munitions, without causing human or material loss," he said, without giving further information on what exactly was dropped. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070906/wl_afp/mideastconflictsyriaisrael_070906161847;_ylt=Ag8Zx2hbaHd2OVJfubVMMmSs0NUE
Iran has quickly come to the aid of Syria and offered any assistance that they may need. I am assuming that includes military assistance.
Although Israel has been talking peace over the last few months it is my suspicion that they are attempting to drag Syria and/or Iran into a war.
You might ask...why would Israel want to drag either of these countries into a war? After last years Second Lebanon War much of the world did a double take on how easily Hezbollah handled Israeli forces while simultaneously firing thousands of rockets into their towns and cities. Yes, in reality, Israel did win that war, but it was very difficult and they sustained far more casualties and equipment loss than expected. Simply put, this strong of a resistance just wasn't supposed to happen against a world renowned military like Israel's.
As a result, many of the Islamic countries in the region took notice of Hezbollah's success and came to the conclusion that Israel may not be as strong as previously believed, especially with the recent change in leadership (Olmert). It gave many in the Middle East hope and encouraged some that now may be the time to wage war against Israel finally destroying them once and for all.
Some military analysts believe that Israel feels that their military reputation was tarnished by the Second Lebanon War and they need another war to redeem themselves. A resounding defeat of Iran, Syria or both would solidify their status as the top military power in the Middle East.
Is it possible that Israel is trying to goad Syria or Iran into a war? At this time, nobody knows the answer to that question, but I have to believe Israel knew exactly where they were and what they were doing. Frankly speaking, I don't believe this was an accident.
But in Israel's defense they are surrounded by mortal enemy nations whose immediate goal is the destruction of Israel. In their mind, in order to survive, there can never be a time when Israel is not feared by all their enemies worldwide.
Ultimately, their enemies will attack (Ezekiel 38: 4-23), but it will be God and not the might of Israel who will destroy them.
Are we on the cusp of war in the Middle East? Only the Lord knows the answer to that question, but one thing's certain... we're one day closer!
Are you ready to meet the Lord? If not, your time is running out!
