Libya In Civil War; Where Will This ME Revolt Lead?
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi could be one of many Islamic leaders in the Middle East and Northern Africa that could fall in the coming days or weeks. Of course, he does not have a good relationship with the West so an Egyptian style takeover is unlikely. If he is to be removed it will likely be by his own people. That seems to be the direction this uprising may take.
It has also been reported that he has ordered his military forces to begin the destruction of oil pipelines in an attempt to disrupt global oil supplies.
"The
sabotage, according to the insider, is meant to serve as a message to Libya's
rebellious tribes: It's either me or chaos," said the report.
Time also reported that the insider
said Gaddafi only has the support of about 5,000 soldiers in the army and that
the Libyan leader has told people close to him that he realizes he cannot take
control over Libya with the troops he has (jpost.com)
Of course, both the US and the Arab League have condemned the violence against the Libyan people, but it looks likely that Gaddafi will not be going down without a fight.
Since the beginning of 2011, much of the landscape in the Middle East has changed, and it is likely there is to be more change. The EU is calling for Israel to seize the moment and make peace with the Islamic world, but they have rebuffed these calls indicating the current uprisings are much more about economic change within their own countries than the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
I have to agree. The unrest in the Middle East is more likely to spread in hope of economic freedom rather than peace with Israel. In my opinion, Middle East hatred toward Israel is a separate issue but that could change quickly if economic reforms never materialize. Many believe that the long arm of the Muslim Brotherhood could infiltrate and seize the opportunity afforded them to change the climate against Israel in key nations such as Jordan and Egypt. However, this would not change the facts on the ground. Each of these nations individually and collectively have not risked attacking Israel because they are well aware of Israel's military superiority.
Even though the future of this Middle East revolt is still yet unfinished, we know the Bible is clear that war is inevitably on the horizon in this region.
However, I would not rule out the possibility of the rise of a climate toward peace. I still fully expect the world to resume their push for the creation of a Palestinian state that will start with the European Union.
"Last week, all four EU members of the U.N. Security Council — France, Britain, Portugal and Germany — backed a Palestinian resolution denouncing the settlements as illegal. Washington vetoed the measure (yahoo.com)."
I have to wonder, with growing EU and world pressure, how long it will be before Washington withholds their veto power.
Are you ready to meet the Lord? If not, your time is running out!
