Ahmadinejad: We Won't Stop Nuclear Program; EU In Meltdown & Assad's Days Are Numbered

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made it clear today that Iran ill not retreat from its nuclear program one "iota".  And for the second time in four days Iran has threatened to completely destroy Israel.  In fact, Tehran stated it would only take four missiles to kill one million Israelis. On the other side of the coin, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said he believed Israel could completely disable Iran's nuclear program and suffer less than 500 civilian casualties in the process.

In other news, even though Syrian President Basher Assad has agreed to terms with the Arab League to stop the violence against the Syrian people, the blood shed has continued.  Arab leaders have now shared with US officials that they are quietly offering Assad safe haven.  Virtually all Arab leaders now believe his reign in Syria will soon come to an end.

Almost all the Arab leaders say the same thing: Assad's rule is coming to an end. Change in Syria is now inevitable," Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (Ynetnews.com).

I have to believe he will not be giving up his kingdom without a fight and I see another NATO military in his future with the blessing of the Arab League.

Things have suddenly taken a major turn in the Palestinian Authority's bid for UN recognition.  Seems things have come to an impassable stalemate in the UN Security Council vote, and now, the PA is resigned to pursue a backup plan of gaining membership in other key UN organizations.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad al-Malki conceded the Palestinians would not be able to gain enough support in the council.

"We knew that the Security Council would not be a picnic. But the most important thing here is who is going to win in the final round," he said. "There will be other rounds, and we will never despair (Ynetnews.com)."

It looks like their next step will be to seek "nonmember state" observer status.

Here's something that could very well be on the cusp of turning prophetic.  On news that the Greek bailout may not hold up, and now Italy's financial woes,  German Chancellor Angela Merkel is calling for a "New Europe".

She called for changes in EU treaties after French President Nicolas Sarkozy advocated a two-speed Europe in which euro zone countries accelerate and deepen integration while an expanding group outside the currency bloc stayed more loosely connected — a signal that some members may have to quit the euro if the entire structure is not to crumble.

"It is time for a breakthrough to a new Europe,'' Merkel said. "A community that says, regardless of what happens in the rest of the world, that it can never again change its ground rules, that community simply can't survive (CNBC.com).''

The Bible says the future revived Roman Empire will be made up of ten nations (Revelation 17:10-13).  Could this be the beginning stages of the EU being reduced to that number?
