One of the major reasons Jesus could not come in any other time period than this one is for the fact that Israel has not been an established nation since before the Roman Empire.
Napoleon, a student of the Bible, knew what others have known throughout the ages. The prophets had stated clearly that when the nation of Israel was reborn, as it was in 1948, this historic event would mark the beginning of the end. It would signal that the Second Coming of our Lord and Savior was very near.
"Now learn the parable of the fig tree," the Lord Himself tells us in Matthew 24:32-34. "When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; even so you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door. Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place."
Many biblical scholars have pointed to the fact that a generation in the Bible is generally regarded as 40 years. Some people point out that 40 years has already passed since the rebirth of Israel and Jesus has not returned. Of course, we also know that the Bible states that a man's life span is 70 years. That maybe the correct length of a generation.
Unfortunately, we simply don't know for certain how long a biblical generation is. In addition, we're not certain when that final countdown began. Did it begin in 1948 when Israel was reborn? Or could it have begun in 1967 when Jerusalem was recaptured and reunified under Jewish control? We simply don't know and that is the way God wants it. But Barnabas states in his (The Apostle Paul’s ministry companion) book that we know that the world was built in 6 days and on the seventh day God rested. So is the length of time to the end of this age. As the Bible has always said, each day represents a 1000 years. Completion is at the end of 7 days. Hence, after 6,000 years has past, Jesus will return and reign here on earth for 1,000 years, completing the symbolic 7 days. Well, from Adam and Eve to Christ, 4,000 years has past. From Christ to present day 1995 A.D., that comes to 5,995 years that have past since time began (time didn’t actually begin until the fall of man). If Barnabas is right, Jesus will return sometime around the year 2000 A.D, give or take a a few years. If the correct time of the rebirth of Israel was in 1948, and a generation holds true at about 70 years, Jesus should again be returning around the year 2,000.
Of course, the calendar is a little off but that keeps us ever watching for the Lord and keeps us from date setting. Then this world must see another 1,000 years, because Jesus promised He would rule and reign on earth for final 1,000 years. This will complete the 7,000 years predicted.
