PAPER: Israeli military ready to bomb Iran...
The Israeli military is preparing itself to launch a massive aerial assault on Iran's nuclear facilities within days of being given the go-ahead by its new government.
Among the steps taken to ready Israeli forces for what would be a risky raid requiring pinpoint aerial strikes are the acquisition of three Airborne Warning and Control (AWAC) aircraft and regional missions to simulate the attack.
Two nationwide civil defence drills will help to prepare the public for the retaliation that Israel could face.
“Israel wants to know that if its forces were given the green light they could strike at Iran in a matter of days, even hours. They are making preparations on every level for this eventuality. The message to Iran is that the threat is not just words,” one senior defence official told The Times. Timesonline
In the world of Bible prophecy, several things are still yet future that may or may not be unravel during the tribulation period. One of the more prominent prophecies is the future war between the Islamic world, led by Russia, and Israel. Ezekiel 38 chronicles this seemingly catastrophic event for which the Bible says that Israel's enemies will come upon them as a great storm (v. 9). Iran's president, unbeknownst to him, has already spoken these biblically prophetic words during an anti-Israel speech he was giving a couple of years back.
In a major policy shift, US President Barack Obama, has decided to court the Iranian government in an attempt to build trust and cooperation. His mission is twofold... 1) President Obama has realized that he will never get out of Iraq or Afghanistan without the help of Iran. Pakistan has become a hotbed for the Taliban and could eventually fall in the coming months, along with a nuclear arsenal of over 100 nuclear bombs. If his objectives in the Middle East are to be met, it will take cooperation from Iran who is pulling many of the strings of unrest in these nations (Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan). 2) Israel has given the US until late 2009 to get through to Iran regarding their nuclear weapons ambitions or they will have to strike their facilities. This is a threat Iran has taken seriously and has contacted the UN to log a protest.
As I've said in previous articles, I do not believe that the US or the EU will allow Israel to act unilaterally and stage an attack against Iran's nuclear facilities. The US administration did not place a time limit on negotiations with Iran for a reason and I highly doubt that they would allow Israel to stage an attack before they have exhausted all diplomatic options. But that doesn't mean it won't happen or the threats to will end. As we get closer to the latter part of 2009 the threat of wars and rumors of wars between these two nations may escalate to a level to which a major conflict may be inevitable. I see one of three options taking place:
1. Pressure from the US and the EU prevents Israel from carrying out plans to attack Iran.
2. Israel ignores pressure from global partners and readies for what looks to be an imminent attack. In an attempt to avert a potential nuclear war, Western and European powers, along with Arab leaders, agree to emergency talks in an attempt to bring about a cease-fire that would provide time to calm the troubled waters of the Middle East. This would include the creation of a Palestinian state with continued negotiations regarding the division of Jerusalem. It's also possible that Iran could order a preemptive strike from Hamas and Hezbollah to divert attention away from their nuclear program. Whether that will prevent Israel from going ahead with their strike against Iran is another thing.
3. Israel ignores pressure from global partners and carries out a precision attack against Iran's nuclear sites. A quick retaliation follows with rocket attacks from Hezbollah (north) and Hamas (south). Iran, along with Syria, immediately prepares for all out war with Israel. In an attempt to avert a potential nuclear war, Western and European powers, along with Arab leaders, agree to emergency talks in an attempt to bring about a cease-fire that would provide time to calm the troubled waters of the Middle East. This would include the creation of a Palestinian state with continued negotiations regarding the division of Jerusalem. Another option to this attack could be that both Iran and Syria decide not to respond personally but continue to use proxy armies such as Hamas and Hezbollah to fight their battles. Either way, the need for lasting peace in the region will become a major priority that can no longer be taken casually.
Certainly, any one of these scenarios could play out, and I'm sure there are possible situations I have missed. Much of what could happen depends on whether or not new Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu will stand strong against US pressure or buckle under as previous administrations have. I have to believe that he will succumb to US pressure and their Middle East agenda of establishing cooperation with Iran. Frankly, allowing Israel to bomb Iran does not play into US President Obama's Middle East exit strategy. I have to believe that Israel will eventually be forced to sign an ill-advised peace plan/cease-fire that will inevitably call down the judgment of God against Israel's enemies (Ezekiel 38 & 39).
