Mashaal: Hamas wants 10 year cease-fire

Hamas has stopped launching rockets at Israel and is looking to establish a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, the Islamist group's political leader Khaled Mashaal told The New York Times in an interview published Monday. He went on to say that Hamas supported "a state on the 1967 borders, based on a long-term truce. This includes east Jerusalem, the dismantling of settlements and the right of return of the Palestinian refugees," specifying that by a "long-term" agreement he meant 10 years.

The Times also quoted the Damascus-based leader as saying that Hamas sought to agree to a truce with Israel, as well as an agreement to swap captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit with multiple Palestinian prisoners.  Jpost.com

While the US continues to blackmail Israel into agreeing to the creation of a Palestinian state, Hamas has now endorsed its creation as well.  Of course, this would include East Jerusalem, the right of return of Palestinian refugees, and the dismantling illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank.  And there's one more possibility...Hamas wants a long-term agreement in the form of a 10-year truce.

If you are a regular reader of mine, you know this truce comes as no surprise.  When Daniel 9:27 describes the future peace accord the Antichrist will confirm with many, he states there will be a 7-year time limit attached to it.  Peace treaties never have time limits, but cease-fires do.  I have been saying for sometime now that this future peace proposal will likely turn out to be in the form of a cease-fire due to the Bible's inclusion of a time limit.  We'll see where this takes us.

It should also be noted that virtually all of the ME peace plans proposed incorporate a time table that would call for certain steps to be accomplished at predetermined points of the agreement.  For instance, the turning over of portions of the West Bank and eventually East Jerusalem to the Palestinians within a certain timeframe.  Most are broken into two halves, but none have had a length of 7-years...some far!

The next 30-40 days will tell us much as to how close we are to future peace.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be meeting US President Barack Obama in early June for what many have described as a collision of wills.  Although, Mr. Netanyahu and his administration, have maintained a strong stand in the face of international pressure, I do not see that continuing.  Israel has already angered the European Union over their stand on the creation of a Palestinian state that has sidelined the upgrading of diplomatic relations between the two countries.  It would be suicide to take the same approach with the US, especially with the current administration.  I have to believe that the diplomatic loss of both the EU and US would be seen as to much for the Israeli government to overcome.  Without US help, Israel would quickly become a prime UN target of international sanctions and isolation.

I would be shocked if Netanyahu stands strong against the most powerful leader in the world.

Are you ready to meet the Lord?  If not, your time is running out!
