The Rapture Of The Church And The Reaction Of The World When It Comes

From time to time, I receive inquiries on how the world will react when the rapture does take place. Usually the question is followed up by the emailer surmising that God will send an illusion or UFO type report that will satisfy (fool) the masses who are left behind.  Frankly, I don't believe God will care what the masses think or believe.  He has given plenty of warnings in His Word and sent messengers throughout the world to proclaim the truth of the coming rapture.

But how will the world react to this unheralded and catastrophic world event?  Certainly, it will take the world by surprise and there is biblical reason to believe that they will see it as it is...the rapture of the church.  Take a look at this Scripture found in Revelation 6:12-17:

"And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"

This passage is talking about a time during the Great Tribulation Period, which will take place sometime after the rapture, when God will begin to pour out His wrath upon the earth.  When the horror of these events begin to take place, the Bible describes it by saying, "The heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places."  I believe this describes that the heavens will actually roll back and reveal the manifestation of God sitting on His throne for all the world to see.  This is further substantiated later in the chapter when "the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"  This will be a time of great fear the likes of which the world has never seen.

With this said, let's address the original question...How will the world react to this unheralded and catastrophic world event known as the rapture?  I believe they will react just as the king's, the great men, the rich men, the chief captains, etc. reacted in the above Bible passage.  Let me explain. When the rapture takes place, chaos and great fear will grip the world.  I actually believe the world will see this as it truly is the foretold "Great Rapture" of the church.  Most will brace for what they believe will follow...impending doom as described in the Bible.  But as time goes on, with no sign of the prophesied catastrophic destruction, the world will come to the conclusion that this great disappearance may not have been the result of the Biblical rapture of the church.  In time, the world will then get back to normal. But at some point in the future, unbeknownst to them, they will be ushered into the tribulation period, and what God has promised will come to past.  Soon, what has been described in Revelation 6:12-17 will fall upon those of the earth and there will be no escape!   When this happens, the world will be reminded of the prophecies of God, the rapture of the church, and what must follow.  Once again, the world will be plunged into chaos and despair, but this time there will be no delay in judgment or way of escape.

When no judgment takes place following the rapture, man will think the judgment of God has passed them by and will breath a sigh of relief.  But soon enough, judgment will come (when the tribulation period begins) and "the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, [will hide] themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and [say] to the mountains and rocks, fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"  This passage gives me reason to believe that they were expecting judgment, a judgment that they thought had passed, but now has suddenly come upon them!

Will you be left behind to face the most horrible time in world history?  If you don't know the Lord that's exactly what will happen.

Are you ready to meet the Lord?  If not, your time is running out!
