Great earthquake in Israel inevitable experts say
On Tuesday, the tropical country of Haiti experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale. Statistically speaking, Israel is likely to experience an earthquake of similar magnitude, sometime in the next 50 years. "We know for certain that it will happen in Israel and we know that as time goes on, the chances of it taking place in our lifetimes is greater," said Dr. Avi Shapira, the head of the government steering committee for earthquake preparedness.
Israel's eastern border runs along one of the world's seismic hotspots, the Syrian-African rift fault line. With the average time-span between earthquakes on the same scale in the regions standing at 80 years, geology experts agree that Israel is long overdue for the next major earthquake and that it can happen at any time. There will be an earthquake in Israel likely sooner than later. The Bible speaks of at least two prominent earthquakes: One will take place in Jerusalem during the tribulation period that will claim the lives of 7,000 men and destroy one-tenth of the city (Revelation 11:13).
The Bible also describes a great earthquake that will take place at the battle of Gog and Magog:
And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground (Ezekiel 38:18-20).
This earthquake will take place when the invading armies of the Russian led Islamic nations come crashing down on Israel as a great storm (Ezekiel 38:9). It may be during this great earthquake that God completely destroys the Dome of the Rock making way for Israel to finally rebuild their Temple.
In other news, against the wishes of the US, Syria has allowed terrorist group Hezbollah to conduct anti-aircraft missile tests on its land. Israel and Hezbollah look to be on a collision course and many believe it could take place sometime within the coming year. Of course, anytime I hear of a possible war between Israel and Hezbollah I immediately think of Iran. With Iran on the verge of achieving nuclear weapons status it is very possible that they have given the okay for Hezbollah to start a war with Israel. War with Hamas may also be on the horizon.
The US is worried that such a move by Syria could also bring an Israeli attack on Damascus.
