Israeli defense minister says occupation must end
JERUSALEM – Israel must recognize that the world will not put up with decades more of Israeli rule over the Palestinian people, the country's defense minister said in unusually frank remarks Monday (yahoo.com).
These words from Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak are words of inevitability. Eventually, the international community will convince the US to turn their back on Israel. As I write, President Obama is on the verge of presenting his own Middle East peace plan that is essentially a remake of former President Bill Clinton's 2000 proposal.
"If he decides to do it, I will support it. And I think if he decides to do it, he should acknowledge that they (Israel and the Palestinians) may come up with a deal that's slightly different than the one he proposes, but we need to do something to deprive both sides of any excuse not to engage in serious negotiations," Clinton said in an interview aired Sunday on ABC's "This Week."
"If this is the tactic he decides to adopt, I will strongly support it," he said
"If there were a peace for the Palestinians, they would have to come along with the rest of the Arab states. There would be a peace between Israel and Syria. This is a huge deal (ynetnews.com)."
Clinton went on to say that he believes a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian standoff would solve the problem of terrorism.
Debkafile has reported that President Obama has given up on two major issues central to Israeli-US relations...stiff UN sanctions against Iran and a call for "defensible" borders.
Certainly, the reality of stiff sanctions against Iran has been dead for weeks, if not months. But in a recent message of congratulations to Israel on its 62nd Day of Independence, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in speaking about their future borders, omitted the phrase "defensible borders".
This is a major change in language for the US who has always openly called for any new Israeli borders to be "defensible". It will be interesting to see how far Israel will allow this to go. In my opinion, Obama is edging closer to the Islamic world at the expense of Israel. This will be magnified many times over after once the rapture takes place.
Two more sizeable earthquakes have struck in the last 24 hours...Afghanistan and Papua New Guinea. So far, nothing major has been reported in the way of damage or death. The death toll from last weeks earthquake in China has grown to over 2,000.
