Palestinian leader Abbas now willing to renew peace talks
Abbas said he had nothing against Binyamin Netanyahu and is ready to talk to him. He is Israel's elected leader, said Abbas, and has a parliamentary majority.
He stressed that certain issues had been agreed and settled in talks with Netanyahu's predecessor, Ehud Olmert and Tzipi Livni, then foreign minister. One of those issues was security in the areas to be handed over to the Palestinian state. It had been agreed that NATO personnel under US command would be deployed in the West Bank and along the Jordan River, he said.
Settlement blocks and territory swaps would be subject to negotiation between the Palestinians and Israel, said Abbas, and a solution could also be found for the Palestinian refugee problem (Debkafile).
Suddenly, Palestinian Leader Mahmoud Abbas is ready to sit down with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. If you haven't heard, Israeli officials have agreed to freeze construction in Jerusalem breaking a Middle East deadlock that has sidelined talks for weeks. Details as to what that may mean has not yet been fully disclosed, but it has breathed new life into the peace talks. Many believe that the freeze is a product of Netanyahu and Obama finally patching up their differences.
According to Abbas, one of the agreed upon issues with the previous Israeli administration was that a newly created Palestinian state would be placed under NATO command headed up by the United States. The US and NATO forces would be responsible for Palestine's security. With present knowledge, this would be an obvious choice, but that could change in a very short amount of time.
Recently, there has been a growing interest and a push for Palestinian's to unilaterally declare statehood by 2011. This campaign is being spearheaded by Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. Although, this is a possibility, I do not believe the Bible supports such a move. I do, however, believe we could have a Palestinian state with an internationally sanctioned agreement by 2012.
Speaking of 2012, I wouldn't rule out that year becoming a monumental year on several fronts. Certainly, I do not place any legitimacy in the Mayan calendar, but if the rapture or God's judgments were to occur during that timeframe, the myth of this calendar could serve as one of the deceptive lies spoken of in II Thessalonians 2:9-11. Just something to think about.
