Israel's Attempt To Turn Back Flotilla Turns Ugly; As Usual World Leaders Condemn Israel
Early Monday morning, Israeli ships and helicopters intercepted a flotilla of six Gaza bound ships allegedly carrying humanitarian goods. For three years Israel has imposed a blockade on humanitarian goods entering into Gaza for fear that most of the goods would be used to inflict terror upon Israel. The truth is, virtually all cement products allowed in have been used to build bunkers instead of there intended purpose of building houses and businesses.
When this flotilla was asked to turn around, they replied that they would not, but would continue to push toward Gaza. When it was apparent that they would not be heeding to Israel's demands, commandos began sliding down ropes from hovering helicopters on to each ships deck. This is where things went very wrong. As the commandos slid to the deck floor, they were met by angry passengers who began hitting them with metal rods and stabbing them with knives. Some even tried to wrestle the guns out of the soldier's hands. A few of them were successful and began firing upon the Israeli soldiers. In self defense, Israeli soldiers killed as many as nineteen alleged peace workers.
Rumors are floating that this will not be the last humanitarian ship coming
out of Turkey to attempt to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza. In fact,
according to sources, the next flotilla may be accompanied by Turkish warships
and fighter jets. This is just another indication of Turkey's move away
from their alliance with Israel and toward Syria and Iran. The Bible predicted
over 2500 years ago that this would indeed happen (Ezekiel 38 & 39).
Of course, this is not what you will be hearing from world leaders and media. Certainly, Israel has only a few friends at the UN, and those they do have, are very suspect. I've been reading news reports all morning with every single source, outside of Israel, declaring this incident a war crime and/or a massacre. In the end, this will serve as a major boost of sympathy for Hamas and put Israel in a very tough spot of defending their actions as just. No matter how much evidence or video Israel presents, there will never be enough to sway the international community to their side.
In other news, the US is standing behind Israel out in the public eye, but behind close doors have endorsed a UN sponsored bill that would push for a nuclear free Middle East.
According to the top-selling Yediot Aharonot daily, the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was "furious with the Obama administration for having failed to prevent the resolution from passing... and for choosing to support it."
"The American support for the resolution, after decades in which it supported Israel on this issue, came as a complete surprise," the paper said.
"In the secret talks that Netanyahu held with Obama's men... Israel was promised that the resolution would not focus on Israel and that if it did, the Americans would vote against (The Raw Story)."
These two developments alone look to derail peace efforts. It will be interesting to see where this all leads and if the US will stand with Israel when all the evidence comes to light regarding the flotilla raid.
