Dead birds, dead fish, rapture date May 21, 2011: What the Bible says
A number of you have asked for me to respond in regard to the recent rash of birds and fish that have died around the world. The number one question I have received is whether or not this phenomenon has prophetic implications.
I would not rule out that it could be prophetic, but as far as the Bible is concerned, there is no scriptural evidence to suggest that it is. Certainly, we are tempted to try and force Scripture to fit the circumstance as I have seen some do, but I prefer to stick with what I know the Bible says for sure. There are more than enough blatant signs being played out before our eyes that we need not create something out of what is likely nothing. That's my take on the situation.
Next topic. I have also been asked about a rapture date that has been circulating. I'm sure many of you have heard that a man has declared that he has figured out that the date of the rapture is May 21, 2011. Of course, the Bible says that no man knows the day nor the hour of the rapture (Matthew 24:36). History tells us that every man who has ever tried to predict the rapture date has been wrong for good scriptural reason. You simply can't know because the Bible says you can't. The rapture may come before that date and it may come after that date, but it's not coming on May 21, 2011. I'm not a gambling man, but I would absolutely put my total net worth, house included, on the line if somebody was foolish enough to take that bet. If it comes between this man's mathematical date setting knowledge and what the Bible has already declared I will take the Bible every time. Rule of thumb: if somebody says the rapture is going to happen on a certain date you can rest assured it's not happening on that date.
If you're looking for signs as to the nearness of the rapture, you need only look at what's going on in the Middle East peace process. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki says he will seek United Nations recognition for a Palestinian state in September and is currently lobbying for votes worldwide. This date coincides with US Pres. Barack Obama's original target for creating a Palestinian state.
"The Foreign Minister said the Palestinian Authority is working to attain as much recognition as possible for a state by September, when it will call for a U.N. vote. It will initially seek Security Council recognition but, failing that, will turn to the General Assembly, where the decisions are not binding but there is no veto (Las Vegas Sun)."
As far as the Bible's concern, there is no reason to believe that peace or Palestinian statehood will be achieved through unilateral moves. Both Daniel 9:27 and Ezekiel 38:8 indicate that Israel will be living in peace within their own land at some point in the future. This gives me all the reason to believe that a peace accord will be reached and confirmed before a unilateral move is successful.
Does that mean that the rapture of the church will happen in 2011? It could happen today or tomorrow or a year from now! My point is this, we don't know when the rapture is going to take place just as a mother does not know the exact time she will give birth to her child, but the signs indicate that it could be soon.
Are you ready to meet the Lord? If not, your time is running out!
