Rice Seeks ME Peace At Any Cost While Bush Still In Office
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is in the Middle East in an attempt to put the peace summit back on schedule. During her visit she officially set the Annapolis summit date for November 26th.
Even though both sides were at odds, Rice has essentially laid down the law to Israeli Prime Minister Olmert that he is to fall in line with Palestinian demands so that a state can be established before President Bush leaves office. This seems to be the goal of both Abbas and Rice who are very optimistic that peace can become a reality in the region within the proposed timeframe.

seriousness' Israeli and Palestinian leaders have shown in moving toward renewed
peace talks."

According to Debkafile sources, at the latest round of talks with the Palestinian negotiations team they were unwilling to budge on the core issues. They did, however, agree that it was not necessary for either side to agree on all issues going into the summit. As it stands right now, this is what the Palestinian negotiating team is demanding:
1. The Annapolis declaration will include Palestinian recognition of Israel – but not as a Jewish state.
2. The boundaries of the future Palestinian state will follow the pre-1967 War lines with minor adjustments through territorial swaps. A few hundreds of square meters may be offered on the West Bank in return for areas in central Israel, not the Negev.
3. Palestinian sovereignty over Temple Mount, the holiest shrine of the Jewish people, must be undivided and include the Jewish place of worship at the Western Wall.
4. The right of return for 1948 refugees is absolute and non-negotiable.
5. The future Palestinian state will enjoy full sovereignty, including its air and electromagnetic space and underground resources, such as water.
6. Negotiations after the Annapolis conference must be concluded by Aug. 2008. Regarding point number six, both Israeli and Palestinian officials, and most analysts believe if peace is to be established through the United States it will have to be done during President Bush's term. Most throughout the world believe that there is a push in the US for a change in Middle East foreign policy.
I have to agree...look for the next president to distance themselves from the problems of the Middle East...in particular Israel. In short, if peace isn't established by late 2008 look for the US to abandon the process altogether. There is a growing distaste for Israel brewing in the US and it will only get worse once the rapture takes place. But not to fear, this will be I believe when the European Union will step in and takeover the peace process who will be headed up by a newly elected (early 2009) president.
Of course, this is mere speculation on my part. Virtually anything could happen between now and early 2009, but one day it will all come to pass. Soon the rapture will take place followed by the appearance of the antichrist who will sign a seven-year peace accord with Israel. Will it happen during these round of talks?
Coming December 13th: The 27 EU nations are set to sign the EU Treaty which will allow for the election of a more permanent president as early as 2009.
