PA president to press Olmert on matter on Thurs.; Erekat: "We want to make 2009 a year of peace."
According to anonymous sources, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak was handed a note (while in Egypt) from Bashar Assad to Ehud Olmert. Many believe that the note signals that Israeli Prime Minister Olmert is willing to set down with Syrian officials and discuss a possible peace solution which could end in Israel giving back much or all of the Golan Heights.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will ask for a commitment from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to freeze all current and proposed Israeli settlements, and will call on Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to put pressure on Israel to halt their expansion.
Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said, "We want to make 2009 a year of peace".
Personally, I don't believe we will see peace in 2008 under the Bush administration, but I do look for someone to come forward (possibly in 2009) and confirm the peace accord that he began. This very likely could be the scenario found in Daniel 9:27 that describes a peace accord that is left on the table and later taken up and confirmed by the future antichrist.
Certainly, it would be foolish to commit to saying that Israel will be at peace in 2009 but I believe it is very close.
As Russia continues to cement its relations with Iran and the rest of the Islamic world, I have to believe the Lord is beginning to bring things together in preparation for His soon coming.
