Time running out for Bush decision on Iran; Mofaz: Israel attack on Iran 'unavoidable' if nuclear program continued

This was stressed by two White House spokesmen in Washington Friday, June 6, in response to Israeli transport minister Shaul Mofaz’s threat to attack Iranian nuclear sites. He said an attack is unavoidable given the failure of sanctions.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino responded: “I understand that Israel is very concerned… when they have a neighbor in their region – Iran – that says they want to wipe them off the map. We are trying to solve this diplomatically.” Debkafile

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama did not preclude Palestinian sovereignty over parts of Jerusalem, or the possibility of the city being the capital of Palestine when he called for Israel's capital to remain "undivided," his campaign clarified.

"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided," Obama thundered Wednesday, earning an ovation from the 7,000-plus attendees at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference.

But a campaign adviser told the Jerusalem Post Thursday that what Obama really meant is that "Jerusalem is a final status issue, which means it has to be negotiated between the two parties" as part of "an agreement that they both can live with." The adviser explained that "two principles should apply to any outcome," which were: "Jerusalem remains Israel's capital and it's not going to be divided by barbed wire and checkpoints as it was in 1948-1967." Analysis
Israeli transport minister Shaul Mofaz has threatened that an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities is inevitable if diplomacy fails.  The timetable for when Iran is believed to achieve the magic point of no return has varied ranging from summer 2008 to 2015.  But the only prediction that matters is that of the Israeli intelligence community which believes it will be sooner than later.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said during his meeting with US President George W. Bush in Washington that both sides agreed that the time to act against Iran was running out.

"With every day that passes, we are getting closer to stopping Iran's nuclear program," he said, adding that substantial steps were being taken to handle the Iranian threat in "a more effective manner."

"Naturally the Iranian issue was central to our talks, and our shared point of departure is the need to deal with Iran before it manages to acquire non-conventional capabilities," Olmert told reporters.  Haaretz

Whether President Bush decides to take action against Iran's nuclear program before leaving office is questionable, but Israel has little choice.  In fact, it would be inconceivable to think that Israel would ignore this major threat and allow Iran to become a nuclear power.  But getting back to President Bush...personally, I would be surprised if he made such an unpopular move during an election year.  Dragging the US into a potential third war would be suicide and essentially assure the Democrats of a landslide victory come November...not to mention the devastating global economic impact such an attack would bring.  But on the other hand, the Bush administration may already see the handwriting on the wall, cut their loses and take this opportunity to act before the Democrats take office in January 2009.

Whether or not you agree with the Iraq War, the painful truth is, if we allow Iran to become a nuclear nation, you might as well look for the rest of the Arab world to follow suit.  And that includes the spread of this technology to terrorist groups as well.

At the American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, shocked many in the audience by stating "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided".  But later, after learning that this statement angered Arab leaders, his campaign advisor told the Jerusalem Post that he really meant that "Jerusalem is a final status issue, which means it has to be negotiated between the two parties" as part of "an agreement that they both can live with."  Israel Insider

I'm sure many of you are looking at Barack Obama as a major figure in the coming end times scenario.  After all, he is believed by some to be a closet Muslim and he could potentially be the next leader of the free world.  On top of that, he will follow a US president that has come close to bringing peace to the Middle East.  Which raises the question, "Will he be the one who confirms the peace agreement left on the table by President Bush?"  That, in and of itself, raises many questions.

Here's another eye opener!  With the belief that Obama will win the election in November, sources are saying that Israeli officials are working diligently to secure a peace accord before President Bush leaves office in fear that the next (US) administration will force them into an agreement that will require even greater concessions.

I have to say that I do see this very scenario playing out for Israel.  I am convinced that a Middle East peace agreement is near, and with it, the world will rejoice.  But it will be a peace agreement that will lead to disaster and set the stage for one of the greatest battles of Bible prophecy...The Battle of Gog and Magog (Ezekiel 38 & 39).

How far down the road this will take place is anyone's guess, but with Israel determined to stop Iran before they achieve nuclear weapons, short of a miracle peace agreement, I see a major Middle East war taking place in the near future.

Are you ready to meet the Lord?  If not, your time is running out!
