Tehran offers to share its “nuclear experience” with Syria; The Khan smuggling ring had not only supplied Iran, Libya and North Korea with nuke technology, but possibly al Qaeda too
The offer came from Iran’s ambassador to Syria, Sayyed Ahmed Moussavi, who stressed in an interview that to boost Iranian-Syrian relations Iran will pass on its “experiences with nuclear power” to Syria. He cited July 7 as the date for their officials to meet.
DEBKAfile’s military sources say Iran’s willingness to defy its obligations under the non-proliferation treaty by offering a nuclear capability to Syria across the border from Israel brings Tehran’s threat to wipe Israel off the map much closer to home. It is a mark of contempt for Washington and the US-led Western sanctions which failed to halt Iran’s uranium enrichment and nuclear missile warhead projects. Debkafile
JERUSALEM -Israel and Hamas pledged to start a cease-fire Thursday in a bid to end a year of fighting that has killed more than 400 Palestinians and seven Israelis. The deal comes as Israel also urged Lebanon to open peace talks.
The cease-fire is expected to be followed next week by an Israeli easing of its blockade of Gaza, Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev said. Talks to release an Israeli soldier held by Hamas will then intensify, Regev said.
Egypt, which brokered the talks, announced a six-month agreement on Tuesday, saying it would begin Thursday at 6 a.m. Hamas confirmed the deal shortly afterward. But there was no official confirmation from Israel until Wednesday.
"Thursday will be the beginning we hope of a new reality where Israeli citizens in the south will no longer be on the receiving end of continuous rocket attacks," Regev said. "Israel is giving a serious chance to this Egyptian initiative and we want it to succeed." Yahoo
JERUSALEM - Israel on Wednesday urged Lebanon to open peace talks, the latest move in a flurry of developments aimed at easing the multiple conflicts in the region.
Government spokesman Mark Regev said Israel was interested in "direct, bilateral" talks and ready to put "every issue of contention" on the table, including a key border dispute over a tiny patch of land Israel controls.
Regev's comments were the government's most explicit overture toward Lebanon. Last week, when Olmert hinted Israel would be interested in talks with Beirut, the Lebanese government rejected them. On Wednesday, a Lebanese government official said that position hadn't changed.
In the past, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora has said his country would be the last to make peace with the Jewish state. Yahoo
Analysis
Iran's ambassador Sayyed
Ahmed Moussavi, in an attempt to bolster Syria-Iranian ties, has offered to pass
on its “experiences with nuclear power” to Syria. Iran maintains that
its nuclear program is peaceful, but that claim took a direct hit when
information went public from a trial against three Swiss engineers connected
with the father of the Pakistan nuclear bomb Abdul Qadeer Khan that they had
passed advanced nuclear weapons blueprints to Iranian officials back in the
mid-90s. These plans included full scale production of a nuclear warhead
that was capable of fitting their medium-range ballistic missiles. In
other words, this would give them the ability to create a small-scale nuclear
weapon that could fit on their already existing missile delivery system.
This is what Debkafile has further learned about this critical situation:
"It is now evident that not only North Korea and Iran have known for some time how to build and deliver a nuclear warhead, but unknown recipients of A.Q. Khan’s merchandise, including terrorist organizations, may also command hazardous nuclear knowledge." Debkafile
The world is in a very pivotal time that they can't afford to
miscalculate. I realize many around the world are opposed to the Iraq War,
and because of that, Iran is counting on US public opinion to squelch a
threatened military operation against their nuclear facilities. Many
analysts believe they will be successful in at least avoiding a US military
strike. Israel, on the other hand, simply can't afford not to strike
Iran's nuclear facilities. Iran is pushing hard to have a nuclear weapon
by September/November of this year. If they are able to adapt it to their
present missile delivery system Israel's very existence will be in
jeopardy. But that's only half the battle. "According to the
Jerusalem Post, Israel is also worried that Tehran is developing a cruise
missile that can evade interception by the Arrow, Israel's anti-ballistic
missile defences."
"Iran is suspected of using smuggled Ukrainian X-55 cruise missiles as a
model for its own project. A cruise missile, which flies low to dodge radar and
interception, could be used to carry a nuclear warhead." Scotsman.com
In other news, Israel and Hamas have agreed to an Egyptian brokered cease-fire that will start Thursday. Israel and Syria are also having what has been described as successful indirect peace talks. According to reports, Israeli Prime Minister Olmert and Syrian President Assad could have a face-to-face meeting in Paris next month at a summit of European and Mediterranean countries. Now Olmert is courting Lebanon to engage in peace talks but so far Beirut has rejected the idea. There has been talk that Israel may be willing to give back the Shebaa Farms captured during the 1967 Middle East War as part of a possible peace deal.
Certainly, peace and war is in the air for the Middle East. Both will eventually come...but which will come first is the question? If I were to speculate I would have to believe that a peace plan will be reached that will include all the aforementioned countries except Iran. They (Iran) will not accept peace with Israel but will not stand in the way of those who do (Syria, Lebanon, PA, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc.) for the sake of reacquiring militarily strategic territories. But Iran is ultimately the leader of these nations and terrorist groups, and when the time comes, they will forsake peace and attack Israel (Ezekiel 38:11-14).
But before this peace comes, a man must rise and take control. He will be persuasive and may even convince Iran to put a halt to their nuclear program (on the surface) and join in on the peace agreement.
The next 12 months will definitely be a very critical time in Bible prophecy.
Are you ready to meet the Lord? If not, your time is running out!
