Sarkozy to host global summit on Mideast peace; Israeli officials: Obama a true friend
A new era has begun with the swearing in of the 44th US President Barack Obama. Many around the world are looking for his guidance to take the world in a new direction economically and to bring peace. Israeli officials have already embraced Mr. Obama as a friend even though he has vowed to move forward with embracing the Muslim world, and more importantly, open up talks with Iran. Israeli Vice Premier Haim Ramon has made a statement that "Israel had nothing to fear from United States President Barack Obama's stated intention to talk to Iran." Haaretz.com This will eventually turn out to be one of Israel's greatest victories in the jaws of defeat (Ezekiel 38 & 39).
Russian gas is once again flowing through Ukraine and into the European Union, but European Union officials are very worried over future supplies due to the volatile relationship between the Russian neighbors. It has now progress to the point that they are beginning to look for alternatives to this vital supply line. Enter Israel. With Israel's recent major gas discovery, could they become the European Union's future main supplier?
"French President Nicholas Sarkozy plans to host in the coming months an international conference in Paris to advance stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, the French daily Le Figaro reported Tuesday." Haaretz.com He, along with a host of other EU nations, have also agreed to help the US stop the weapons smuggling into the Gaza Strip. If they can accomplish this it will go along way toward obtaining peace.
In other news, the last of the Israeli troops have now been pulled out of Gaza. Israeli officials have warned that fresh missile strikes from Hamas would prompt a more devastating response from Israel.
