Israel, Hamas on Verge of Truce Deal
A long-term truce between Israel and the Islamic resistance organization Hamas could be reached within the next 48 hours, according to sources in Cairo.
This would replace the shaky and temporary truce reached on Jan. 18 following Israel's military offensive into Gaza which killed over 1,300 Palestinians, most of them civilian, and left approximately 5,000 wounded.
Mahmoud al-Zahar one of Hamas's more militant Gaza-based leaders will be returning to Cairo shortly to possibly confirm an agreement between Israel and his group.
The agreement would include the release of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit as well as the release of at least 1,000 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
Diplomats and Egyptian officials say the first part of an effort to implement a cease-fire calls for a truce of between one year and 18 months and the initial opening of at least two of the Gaza Strip's border crossings.
In the second phase of the proposal, Israel will release the Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Shalit.
However, Hamas and Israel are at odds over the exact number of prisoners to be released as well as the release of four of the prisoners whom Israel accuses of "having blood on their hands." ME Times
As this possible truce evolves between Israel and Hamas (1 to 1 1/2 years), it should be taken into consideration, that at some point, some sort of peace will have to be established to satisfy the biblical prophecy found in Ezekiel 38:1-15. This prophecy is essentially saying that Israel will be living in a time of peace and safety when Russia and their Arab allies come down upon them as a storm (Ezekiel 38:9).
My own personal theory, this one-year cease-fire could be the precursor that sets off this epic war. Upon Israel's miraculous victory, this could set the stage for the Antichrist to emerge and confirm a seven-year cease-fire that guarantees Israel's security. It would be contingent upon creating a Palestinian state and eventually dividing Jerusalem. At some point, Israel must rebuild the Temple on its original location. It will be interesting to see what transpires to bring that prophecy to life.
Whether this is the path God's plan will take is unknown, but as time passes, we may begin to see this prophetic puzzle, or something similar, taking shape.
